Uptown Girls take Access Tigers downtown, 13-5

Syosset, NY, 2003.06.16--The Uptown Girls (Team 4) cruised to a 13-5 victory over the Access Tigers (Team 13) in the second round of the Junior League playoffs tonight at HB Thompson Middle School Field.

Uptown Girls batted intelligently, taking advantage of walks that staked them to a big lead. Access Tigers battled back, but it was too little too late, as Uptown Girls displayed tight defense that sealed the victory and kept their season alive.

Tigers pitcher Lily Mummert, who has been sharp all year, had a shaky outing, walking in three runs in the first before striking out the side. She again loaded the bases on free passes in the third before an infield blooper by Amanda Targovnik fell in for three runs and blew the game open. Zoe Saunders came on to pitch for the Tigers and did a fine job. Zoe and Lily combined for 10 strikeouts.

Nicole Tang went the distance for Uptown Girls, striking out eight along the way. Nicky also had a pair of hits and scored three time. Also scoring three times were Morgan Zlotolow and Laura Goldman. Uptown Girls made seven putouts without an error, and infielders caught several hard-hit line drives.

Access Tigers pounded the ball, though they failed to mount extended rallies. Zoe Saunders had a pair of triples and drove in two runs. Heather Kwiatkoswki also tripled, and Lily Mummert had a pair of doubles, scored twice and drove in two runs. Dimpie Tolami drove in a run with a hit, and Annalisa Caramico also hit and scored. Lindsay Pearlman scored for the Tigers and was solid behind the plate.
