| The Syosset Storm continued their winning ways, with a thrilling 10-7 victory over previously unbeaten Glen Head on July 24. This SYAC Summer Travel Softball team brought their record to 2-1 in the U10 division of the Glen Cove Mayor’s Trophy.
Syosset got strong pitching through seven innings from Danielle Zurek and Alexa Beovich. The Storm jumped to a lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run smash by Jessica Rapfogel. In the fourth inning, Syosset mounted the rally of the night, with hit after hit after hit. Danielle Zurek reached and then stole two bases and scored. Katie Cirella reached and scored on aggressive base running. Next came run-producing hits by Jessica Kuse, Julia Rauchenberger, Jessica Rapfogel, Samantha Lerner and Jenna Miller, who cleared the bases with a triple. Syosset added to their lead in the sixth inning, with more successive hitting against Glen Head. Danielle Zurek closed out the bottom of the seventh, as Storm infielders executed three clean putouts to Jessica Kuse at first base. Another game on July 22 was cut short by rain, with Syosset ahead of Glen Cove 4-2. |

New helmets ease transition to windmill pitching |

| Parental concern over the adjustment to windmill pitching from Pony League to Junior League in weekday SYAC this past spring resulted in the SYAC Girls Softball Board's termination of that pitching style in the Junior League. However, girls of that same age playing on SYAC Travel teams must make the adjustment.
To that end, we have purchased special helmets that virtually eliminate any possibility of the girls getting hit in the face. As can be seen in the picture above, the Syosset Storm is wearing and loving the new helmets. The one-size-fits-all is pretty good for most, a little spacious for some. The game in the photo above was cut short by lightning, with the Storm down 1-0 against a really good team from Queens. The girls are having a ball. |
