Syosset, NY 3 June 2008--At tonight's Syosset High School Senior Athletic Banquet, the Board of SYAC Girls Softball gave out its first annual SYAC Scholarships. The awards were created to honor graduating Senior members of the Syosset Lady Braves, the varsity girls sofball team at Syosset High School, who grew up playing in SYAC Girls Softball.

"The process of selecting a winner or winners will undoubtedly become more refined in the years to come," said SYAC President Gil Numeroff, "but after 20 years of talking about doing this, we finally found the will to make it a reality."

The $500 fund this year was divided into five $100 awards to honor Dayna Heller, Melissa Klafter, Jayshree Narendran, Alissa Santucci and Cara Savarese. These varsity softball stars played for an average of five seasons each in SYAC Girls Softball.

The award certificate reads, in part, "The Board of SYAC Girls Softball congratulates you on your graduation from Syosset High School, thanks you for the fine example you set for the nearly five hundred girls who participate in SYAC each season, and wish you continued success in college and everything you do in the future.

The event was held at The Woodlands in the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course.
