Does signing up to coach automatically mean I’m coaching? |
No. The Board, working with the commissioners of each league, makes the final determination of who will coach and/or sponsor from among those who have signed up. |
How is someone selected to be a coach or sponsor? |
The Board selects those sponsors and coaches they believe best support and exemplify the following objectives: a. To teach our children the game of softball |
My friend and I want to coach together and we have another friend who wants to sponsor our team. Can we do this? |
Generally the answer is NO. If the combination of the three children involved does not result in a stacked team, such a request will be considered by The Board. |

How do I know which league my daughter is in? |
Instructional League is grades K-1. Pony League is grades 2-3. Junior League is grades 4-5 and Senior League is grades 6-7-8. |
I have two (2) or more children playing. On the registration card, there's a check-box that asks if there's a sister in the same league. Do I check this box? |
Only if the girls are in the same league (see above). For example, twins would always be in the same league. A girl in 3rd grade and one in 5th are in two different leagues. |

Why do you have evaluations if everyone makes the team? |
To provide a meaningful experience for our children, we try to create a group of balanced teams for each league. When our objectives are properly fulfilled, each team should experience a fair share of both wins and losses. The evaluations, both in the winter and by their coaches during the season are key to achieving this goal. |

After signing up, my daughter decided she really doesn't want to play. Can I get a refund? |
You may get a refund until March 1st. After that, we begin making up our teams and strongly discourage anyone from quitting as it upsets the balance we work so hard to create. |
Aside from not getting a refund, is there any other penalty for quitting? |
Provided it is done before March 1st, no. However, when a child quits a team--for any reason other than health-related--after the season begins, it hurts her team. To discourage this, the Board of SYAC Girls Softball adopted a policy in 2005 to deny registration the following season to any girl who either quits or does not show up to play in 80% or more of her teams games. |
When does the season run? |
The season begins on or about April 1st, weather-permitting, and runs through the middle of June, which includes playoffs in all leagues except Instructional. |
How many games are there and when are they played? |
There are 10 regular season games scheduled for each league, which are played weeknights between 6:15pm and the onset of darkness (usually around 8:00pm). |

May I request that my child be placed on a particular team to facilitate carpooling? |
No. We do not place children on teams based on a carpooling request. Rare exceptions are made only in extreme cases as determined by The Board. |
