Orange Crush takes playoffs back to back

Syosset, NY 21 June 2011—The 2011 Senior League Playoffs promised to be exciting and it was, right down to the Championship game played here tonight.

Orange Crush coahes Jacki Mitchell, Dot Scarpinato, Lori Mascia and Bob Mitchell with their 2011 Champions.

Last year, Orange Crush won it all and this year, only Jam'n Jass stood in its way to repeat. But Jam'n Jass had beaten Orange Crush in both of their regular season matchups and Jam 'n Jass had a strong windmill pitcher in Laura Weintraub while Orange Crush did not have any.

Jam'n Jass coahes David Konsky, Darren Levine and Alan Sable with their 2011 Playoff RunnersUp, who took two of three from Orange Crush this season.

In the end, however, it was Orange Crush on to repeat, a feat that had not previouly happened in anyone's memory. And in spite of the somewhat lopsided score, it really was a very close and exciting game.

At last, a look at the
2011 Senior League season's "Secret Team"

Syosset, NY 6 June 2011—This season, a team from Our Lady of Mercy Academy joined the Senior League. Their games were umpired and scored but because their players were not assigned to teams in the regular SYAC draft, their games were treated as exhibitions and thus did not count in League standings.

However, because of that situation, the team was excluded from the standings page and you were not able to see this team's photo. Here, today, we correct that unfortunate circumstance. It's been great having them with us this season and we hope they enjoyed it as much as we did.

About the Senior League...

The Senior League is for girls in our community who are in 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grade as of January 1st. As in Pony and Junior Leagues, this is a competitive League. As in the Junior League, pitching is done by the players, but unlike the Junior League, windmill pitching allowed at this level.

In setting up teams for the Senior League, we work hard to create balanced teams, rather than simply putting kids together with their friends, as we do when they're in our Instructional League. At this age, we strongly discourage parents from trying to get their children on the same teams as friends, for whatever reason. This is a competitive league, and, as such, fairness is a key to making it fun, and inclusive, for all kids. And in the course of playing a season in SYAC, strangers always become friends.

The 2011 season is tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, April 18, 2011. Registration and Evaluations take place in January. Once placed on a team, your child will be contacted by her coach sometime around the beginning of April.

All regular season games take place weeknights at 6:15pm and go until they end (6 innings) or it gets too dark or too cold to play. Playoff games continue until they end. Cancellations due to inclement weather will be announced on the web on the home page and on this page and on the SYAC Girls Softball Weather Line (516) 733-4066.
