New Hyde Park vs. Cyclones

T
4-4

6 September 2008—A brand new team—the Syosset Cyclones—swept in a brand new fall season for SYAC Travel Softball today. The Cyclones battled to a thrilling 4-4 tie with New Hyde Park in their first game in the U8 division of the NBNM Softball League.

The Cyclones took their more experienced opponents by surprise with a barrage of hitting that put up runs in the first and second innings, as they took a 3-0 and then a 4-1 lead. New Hyde Park tied things up in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the frame, the Cyclones loaded up the bases and threatened a win before New Hyde Park made a series of sparkling plays to secure a tie.

The game's MVP medal was awarded to Emily Casale. Their were plenty of great plays and hits, including some tremendous smashes by Danielle Jacoby and Emily Quinn.

Great things are ahead for the Cyclones, SYAC's newest of five travel teams.

SYAC sends a big thanks to Cyclones coaches Christine Casale and Stacey Riech, and to SYAC Board member and Cyclones dad Frank Di Costanzo, who operated the pitching machine.

The Syosset Cyclones serenade batter Caroline Di Costanzo with the “peewee power!” cheer.
Jenna Riech was named MVP of the Cyclones game against North Bellmore/North Merrick.
