SYAC Fall Travel 2008 |
A Winning Weekend for SYAC Travel Softball23 September 2008SYAC Travel Softball teams racked up six wins this past weekend against three losses, in their second full week of league competition this fall. In addition, a number of skills clinics were held to improve softball skill levels and increase teamwork for players on five teams in the travel program. The Syosset Cyclones fell 8-2 to a tough North Bellmore/North Merrick team as they competed in the NBNM U8 League that plays on Jerusalem Avenue. The Syosset Hurricanes, competing in the U10 division of the NJBL League, split a pair of games in an away date against the Islip Red Devils. There was plenty of hitting as they dropped the first game 14-11 but pounded their way to a 17-15 win in the second game. The Syosset Storm, also competing in the U10 division of NJBL, had two commanding wins over the Long Island Bandits at Longo Field at H.B. Thompson Middle School. The Storm prevailed 15-7 and 11-1. The Storm has jumped out to a 4-0 record this fall. The Syosset Thunder, competing in the U12 division of NJBL, split a pair of games with the Nesconset Panthers in an away date. They lost the first game 5-4 but surge ahead in the second game and won 12-2. The Syosset Xtreme took a pair from the visiting Peconic Lions at Hap Harris Field at Syosset High School. They won the first game 10-0 and the second 12-4. They compete at U14 in NJBL. |

SYAC Travel in Action this Spring |
Teams competing in three divisionsSyosset, NY 17 May 2007--SYAC Travel is fielding three teams this spring in the highly competitive Softball Division of the National Junior Baseball League. This is the fourth year that SYAC Travel is competing in Long Island travel leagues in a program that continues to grow.
The Syosset Storm, a U10 team, represents SYAC in a special combined U10/12 National Division of NJBL. The Syosset Flames, a U12 team, compete in the U10/12 American Division. The Syosset Xtreme competes in the U14 division of the league. Travel softball is intensely competitivewith lightning fast windmill pitching and aggressive stealing and baserunning. Teams apply strategies and signs, frequently bunting, slap hitting and hitting situationally. It’s exciting and fast-paced. Travel softball requires commitment. There are practices, clinics and game dates that must be made. Game dates, which fall on weekends, are doubleheaders and you can be on the field for four hours of play. Away games can be in either Nassau or Suffolk County. Two things are certain about travel softball: There is a LOT of great ball to be played! And playing hard in travel ball will improve your skills! SYAC Spring U10: Syosset Storm |

All About the Travel League |
Spring Travel Tryouts When do we play? While travel softball is definitely growing on Long Island, that growth is far from steady so it is difficult to say with certainty what each season will bring. It is entirely conceivable that we can create a team, start practicing and learn that there is no league in which it can play. We're doing everything we can to decrease that level of uncertaintly, but for the next few years, it will probably be a fact of life. For Fall Ball, the ASA league begins after Labor Day and runs through early November. Games are generally played on Sundays and are usually doubleheaders. Games generally last about two hours each. Unlike the long SYAC Spring Season, the short Fall ASA League is very competitive. As such, girls who really like to play and compete are urged to join. We know there is a lot of talent in this age group in our community, and we are again expecting to field a premier team with very experienced, quality coaches. We can guarantee that your kids will learn and play at a much higher level than they have in the past. Many girls play both SYAC Fall Travel Softball and soccer. We make every effort to see that our practice and game schedules do not conflict with soccer, but girls who want to play SYAC Travel Softball and also play soccer have to understand that both require serious commitment and carefully consider their decision to do both.
